Study warns about preschoolers and Ritalin

Highlights: not recommended for children under 6

While there are some benefits for children with severe ADHD, preschoolers are more likely than older children to develop side effects. About 40% developed side effects! That’s really high!

I had no idea that 1 in 100 preschoolers had been prescribed Ritalin. Are these doctors/parents not aware of cognitive skills training? They should be trying that first. The majority of kids with ADHD who undergo intensive cognitive skills training (“brain training”) get off Ritalin. Why try drugs first??
